Here are some of the more common questions we receive from parents!
What are the cabins like?

There are two different types of air-conditioned cabins. Cabins 1-4 are set up as duplexes, giving us 8 cabins. Each have eight bunk beds (sleeping 16 people), dressers, carpeted floors and adjoining bathrooms. The bathrooms are complete with two showers, two toilets, and two sinks.

Our skilled and experienced kitchen staff prepares all the food. Campers and parents often comment on the high quality of our food. Our menus are planned to ensure they contain the highest nutritional value and are properly balance. Besides this, it's just plain good! |
Who supervises my child?
|
Each cabin is supervised by two to three of our trained and experienced counselors. Counselor to camper ratios vary dependent upon camper ages. All of our staff are high school graduates or college students and have completed our staff training. We have a high percentage of staff that returns year after year. Many were once campers themselves and have completed our leadership training program. |
What are the leadership programs?

Camp Oak Hill’s counselor training philosophy is unique. It is one of the few camps that trains its participants through a three-year process. Camp Oak Hill addresses the formidable challenges facing today’s young people by preparing them with the values and knowledge they’ll need as the next generation of Christian leaders. How can I be sure that my child will be in the same cabin as his/her friend?
|
List the name of the camper that you would like to be with in the Cabin Request blank on the application or online registration form. Cabin requests cannot be guaranteed, but we will make every effort to fulfill all requests. Camper requests must be made by both families. |
Are there scholarships available?
|
Yes. Scholarship (Campership) forms are available from the camp office. Partial camperships are offered for all sessions and are based on financial need and availability. Campers are only eligible to receive assistance for one week of camp. A minimum $100 deposit is required. Scholarships are not available for Leadership Programs. |
What are the special rotations my child can sign up for?

Campers can sign up for Horseback Riding and Campout, both of which cost an extra fee. Horseback Riding is $80 for the week and Campout is $20. A Horseback Trail Ride is offered during Session 5, Youth Week, for $40.

When do sessions begin to fill up?

There are four stand-alone cabins that have ten to fourteen bunk beds, sleeping 20 –28 people, all other amenities the same, including bathroom facilities. These cabins house older campers and include a porch overlooking the lake. |
Who will be in my cabin?

Campers are grouped with other campers the same age and grade, typically within a one-year or one-grade range. There are required ratios of counselors to campers based on the ages of the campers. Generally, each cabin will have two or three counselors. |

What kind of activities do you have?
|
Camp Oak Hill has many different activities including: archery, riflery, canoeing, swimming, zipline, field/gym games, horseback riding, tennis, frisbee golf, skits, devotions, praise & worship, volleyball, soccer, basketball, low ropes, climbing, and much more! |
What are the special activities I can sign up for?

Where would I stay?
|
As a counselor you would stay in the cabin with a particular age group of campers. |
Do I have any time off?
|
For typical camp sessions you will leave camp on Friday evening and report back in around 2:00 on Sunday afternoon. During two week sessions you will be given an alternate day off. Every effort is made to try and allow counselors 1-2 hours off each day, free from duties and camper supervision. |
What are "after hours"?
|
Counselors not having cabin duty are allowed to have a free time after nightly devotions whereby they are able to fellowship with other counselors and have some time off from their duties and camper supervision. |
What would I do if I were a rotation instructor?
|
A rotation instructor will spend each morning instructing different cabins in one particular activity, such as archery, riflery, tennis, etc. |
What would I do if I were an activity counselor?
|
An activity counselor leads their cabin to each of the three activities they are assigned to every morning. They participate in each activity and help the instructors as needed. |
What is a typical day like?
|
For counselors everyday is different. You begin at 7:30 with waking your campers, getting them ready for Morning Watch (devotions) and then breakfast. After cabin cleanup, everyone then begins their 3 rotations. Lunch is at 1:00 pm, followed by mandatory rest time. The remainder of the afternoon includes free time and cabin time. Dinner is at 6:00, followed by the group evening program, praise & worship, and cabin devotions. Showers and Lights Out! |
How many kids would be in my cabin?

Anywhere from 13 to 24 campers will be in each cabin. The appropriate counselor to camper ratios will vary dependent upon age of campers. |
Retreat Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book my group at Camp Oak Hill?
|
Contact the business office at (919) 782-2888 and ask for Brian. If space is available, a retreat contract and other information will be mailed to you to complete your reservation. See the “Booking” link under Retreats for more information. |
When is Check-In and Check-Out?
|
The group leader is responsible for letting the retreat host know when you will arrive at camp. Our staff will be ready to greet you when you arrive! Groups must check-out with the retreat host no more than 3 hours after your last Camp Oak Hill meal at camp. |
Do you offer any programs for retreat groups?
|
Groups are responsible for planning their own programs. Our staff will be happy to assist you in your planning, just let us know!

What are the cabins like?
|
All cabins are heated and air-conditioned, and contain indoor bathrooms and showers. The beds are bunk-style, and contain between 16 and 28 beds, depending on the cabin. Four of the cabins are duplex-style, and sleep 16 on each side. Cabins 5 & 7 sleep 20 people, and Cabins 6 & 8 sleep 28. |
What activities are offered? Does Camp Oak Hill staff lead all activities?

Use of the full-size gym, activity fields, tennis courts, volleyball net, disc-golf course, and horseshoes are all included with your stay for no extra charge. Groups must provide their own recreation equipment (except horseshoes and basketballs). All specialized activities, including swimming pool, boating, climbing wall, zip-line, and low-ropes course are led by Camp Oak Hill staff and require an additional fee. |
Are meal times flexible?
|
Meal times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are 8:30, 12:30, and 6:00, respectively. These times are not adjustable unless your group has exclusive use of the facility. Please plan accordingly! |
Is there a minimum group size needed to book a retreat?
|
Yes – groups must commit to pay for 25 people to reserve our facilities overnight. |
Does Camp allow tent and RV camping?
|
Our facilities do not currently accommodate tent or RV camping. All overnight guests stay in our cabins. |
We are bringing a guest speaker – is separate housing available?
|
We offer a guest house with 4 private rooms available for guest speakers or group leaders who need separate lodging. Each room sleeps two people and has its own private bathroom. Linens and towels are provided. Additional fee required for guest house rooms. |
Does Camp Oak Hill provide linens?
|
No – groups are responsible for bringing their own linens for twin-size beds. Groups are also responsible for bringing their own towels and other toiletries. |
Does Camp Oak Hill provide all meals during our stay?
| Yes. Meal cost is $6 for breakfast, $7 for lunch, and $8 for dinner. While we do NOT rent out our kitchen for use, we welcome groups to bring snacks and drinks if they choose. Groups who wish to provide their own meals must contact the camp staff in advance to discuss options. |
Can I reserve the camp exclusively for my group?
|
Yes, with a guaranteed minimum of 135 people. This means you commit to pay for 135 lodging spaces during your stay. |
How many people can your facilities accommodate?
|
The camp has 226 beds spread out over 12 cabins. The dining hall and activity center can accommodate up to 200 people comfortably. |
What is cell phone service like at camp?
|
Cell phone service is very poor at camp. Certain phones and service providers have better service than others. A land line is available for emergency use. |
What equipment is offered in the Activity Center?
|
Each large meeting room in the Activity Center is equipped with a LCD projector, DVD player, automatic drop-down screen, wireless microphones, laptop hookups, and wireless internet access. Note: All groups bringing music or a band must provide their own sound equipment. Camp Oak Hill does not offer sound hookups for musical equipment. |
