Frequently Asked Questions about Summer Staff

What is the minimum age required to work at camp?

- All counselors must have completed at least one year of college. Kitchen Assistants, Service Crew, and Media Assistant positions are open to recent high school graduates and older. Age requirements for specific positions are found under their designated link on the Summer Staff page.

What are the dates of employment?

- June 3 thru August 3, 2012, with optional work days thru mid-August

When is Staff Training?

- Sunday, June 3 - Friday, June 8, 2012. Staff Training is mandatory.

Do I have to work the entire summer?

- All staff are expected to work the entire term of employment. Scheduling conflicts that prevent you from working must be pre-approved by the Director prior to hiring.

Where will I live?

- Counselors live in cabins with their campers. Administrative Staff have separate sleeping quarters.

May I bring my car?

- Yes. Staff parking available, though staff members may not leave the property while camp is in session.

Where is camp located?

- Camp Oak Hill is located in Oxford, North Carolina, approximately one hour north of Raleigh.

How do I become a lifeguard or certified adventure course instructor?

- Training for all specialized activities is held during the month of May and during staff training. If hired, you will be informed of the training dates adn given the option of attending any or all of the trainings.

Do I get paid?

- Yes, all summer staff are paid a weekly stipend, paid every other Friday. Pay amounts vary by position.
